Roll That Shiz, Oat Boy!
Oats are obviously awesome, field-dwellers...
Known scientifically as Avena sativa, the protein content of the oat is the highest among cereals. For reals. And for Meals ;) Farmers love oats too as they don't require as much sun as other cereals, and can tolerate less-than-favourable soil conditions, and way more rain – making them perfectly suited to areas with breezy wet summers like north-west Europe. Cool. No, really, cool.
"Oats are naturally gluten-free, but can be prone to contamination if grown side-by-side with fields of wheat, or if processed in facilities that handle barley, wheat and rye."
At Gorilla Food Co. we source our porridge and jumbo rolled oats from cross-grain certified farms which allows all our gluten intolerant buddies to munch their porridge in peace :) Which I think is kinda neat.
After centuries of sustenance, oats are still rockin' it as a staple food because they have such numerous uses and immense nutritional benefits. They're super nice on the heart and help to lower cholesterol, contain loads of soluble fibre to smooth out digestion, are packed with antioxidants and are known to stabilise blood sugar levels, too. Holy Groats.
Rolled, cut or crushed into oatmeal, or ground into oat flour...they're off-the-chart-healthy, are the epitome of sweet, hearty comfort, and have been piping up in porridge, granola, muesli, oat bread, smoothies, flapjacks, cakes and cookies for epic amounts of time.
"Not just for food – the oat plant produces excellent soft straw for animals, and one cup of ground oatmeal in your bathwater has long been used to soothe ya soul, as well as pipe down inflamed skin issues like eczema and sunburn."
So oats can even be considered a beauty product. Porridge bathing...Yes way, hombray!
Right now we've got an entire castle moat full of gluten free porridge, plus jumbo rolled oats...so kids, ladies and blokes can pipe 'em down their throats...and then maybe gloat about the technicolour dreamcoat this energy-enhancing groat allows us all to emote.
So on a final note why not float on up the vibrant stream of health, and we'll provide the boat!
Damn, what a quote:
"Thus it was written, way before it was wrote" – dope! :)
